HEART of Texas Fundraiser:

100 for $100

As a home-school family ourselves, there is a special place in our heart to serve other home schoolers.

A little about us. We are a home-school family like you. We began home schooling our oldest in 1996. Since then, we have graduated four children and are currently home-schooling the youngest two: one is a junior in high school and the other is in seventh grade. We will be doing this quite a while longer, Lord willing! We love what the Lord has done for our family through home schooling, and we love sharing that vision with others.

We began HEART of Texas in 2005 to assist families with finding home-school information, support groups, and resources; and to assist support group leaders with serving the families in their groups. We wanted to be a connecting point to link families with what they needed to be successful.

In our 17 years of operation, we have never held a formal fundraiser. With the number of new home school families on the rise, we are now asking for your help.

We are looking for 100 people to assist us with a gift of $100 or more. This will greatly help us continue our efforts to advance home schooling, assist families, host regional events, and start a Scholarship Fund.

Many families have already contributed to this cause, and we are very grateful. Thank you!

HEART of Texas is a 501c(3), non-profit organization servicing North Texas home-school families and support group leaders. We are a volunteer-run organization with a volunteer staff and board, and we rely solely on donations and memberships to fund our activities.

We assist new families looking for information about home schooling, refer families to support groups and other resources, host a variety of regional events, and provide training and support to local support group leaders.

Additionally, we publish a newsletter, chock-full of field trip ideas and family events happening across North Texas (as we learn about them). AND now that everything is seeming more "normal" for the 2022-2023 school year, with more events are being scheduled (and not cancelled), we anticipate getting back to our regular monthly schedule.

We also have an amazing board of directors serving with us, and each of them also has a desire to serve home-school families and help them be successful.

Our heart is to build relationships.

Our motive is to serve people.

Our agenda is Proverbs 3:27.

Your gift of $100 (or any amount) is 100% tax-deductible, very appreciated, and will be used wisely.

Thank you in advance for partnering with us in our mission to serve the home-school community of North Texas!

Blessings,

Dave & Anne Gebhart

Cold Hands, Warm Soup. . .

"In January it's so nice while slipping on the sliding ice

to sip hot chicken soup with rice," begins one of our favorite books by Maurice Sendak, Chicken Soup with Rice.

I have to agree. When the mercury drops, I can't think of anything more comforting than a bowl of homemade soup!

Here's a yummy Chicken Soup with Wild Rice recipe to sip with your kids while you're snuggled together on the couch reading and keeping warm!

Here are a few other fun activities to keep your kiddos busy during the month of February:

Ice Ornaments Even if the weather isn't below freezing, these are beautiful to hang outside and watch as they melt. Set a timer and see how long it takes for one to melt. Experiment with different sizes and thicknesses to see which ones melt fastest or slowest.

Pretend Snow with Baking Soda & Shaving Cream! This "snow" is fun to play with and looks pretty close to the real thing! Read Snowflake Bentley and compare the properties of real snow with the homemade version.

Bird Seed Cookies for Our Feathered Friends Make a batch of bird seed "cookies" and hang them for the birds near a window where you can watch them as they eat.

Science/STEM: Erupting Snowballs A fun way to create a chemical reaction while learning about acids and bases.

Marshmallow Snowmen for Hot Chocolate These are adorable treats to accompany your hot chocolate!

Astronomy: What's in the February Sky? Kids are fascinated by the night sky. Teach them about the constellation Orion, which is easy to view during the month of February.

Valentine's Day Ideas!

Paper Flowers - These tissue paper flowers are so easy to make.

Heart Shaped Bacon - Nothing says "I love you" better than heart-shaped bacon.

Heart-Shaped Cinnamon Rolls- All you need is a tube of refrigerated cinnamon rolls with butter cream icing!

Heart-Shaped Cinnamon Rolls- All you need is a tube of refrigerated cinnamon rolls with butter cream icing, and these step by step instructions.

Valentine's Day Desserts- A gallery of 53 dessert ideas!
